Closing up Summer 2015

The first snow has fallen in Fairbanks so it is time to wrap up summer on the blog.

Healy Lake
Yuri brought the girls to Healy Lake for  a long weekend and if the pictures are any indication, they had a blast. Yuri and I both spent many childhood weekends at Healy Lake - albeit separately, so it's nice that the girls get a taste of the fun we got to experience in our youth.

Rory at the controls...she's getting so big.

Relaxing on the couch with Grandma Linda.

Cousins working the tractor (I'm hopeful this was just for show and that the tractor wasn't really running). What a ragtag group.

Timeless shot - one that our folks probably have of us at this age.

Kenny Lake
We took our second annual trip to Kenny Lake to meet up with some of Yuri's family and friends.  Since it is a bit of a long drive we took a pit stop; staying at Fielding Lake for the evening.  Here is a picture of the girls in front of the lake.  Side note: I had no idea how blurry the pictures are until I downloaded them to the blog.

Upon arriving at Kenny Lake, Rory hopped on a 4-wheeler and rarely got off.  Here she is with her cousin Quinn and friend Ginger.

Rory and Massie were the youngest kids of the group but the big kids made sure they were included in all the fun activities.

Double rainbow with Yuri's brother in the forefront.

Kids playing a game of Spoons.

At one point all the 4-wheelers were out and Rory was feeling a little down.  Her Uncle, Leon, made things right by getting her on the bobcat...what a treat.

Uncle Leon also made an attempt to teach Rory to ride a Motorcycle.  She wasn't quite ready but he gave it his best shot (I may have pushed this upon both of them...I really want my girls to know how to ride all types of machines).

Massie and her cousin, Estelle, were inseparable for the weekend.

Betty and Bruce joined us for the weekend.  They fit in wonderfully (they always do). Here is Bruce with his Jiffy Pop.

Jeff, Betty and Leon enjoying the smoky campfire.

One of the Morgans learned to ride the motorcycle over the weekend.

Group shot - what a gang!

During one of the days at Kenny Lake the group went on a mountain hike - I choose to stay behind with the "littles" and we took the opportunity to visit a Yak farm.  The girls were surprisingly brave with these large animals.

Tanana Valley State Fair
The highlight of every trip to the fair is a ride on the horses.

Next stop - petting zoo

My brave family...

We ran into our neighbor, Sandy, and the girls took a few rides with her.

Best. Shot. Ever

Bubble Girl

Losing Teeth
Rory was probably the last of her friends to lose her first tooth and she made up for it by loosing two over the course of two days.  Here is one very excited girl!

Unfortunately one of the teeth got lost (probably in the shag rug - yuck).  The tooth fairy still came through with some cash.  Yuri must have helped her with the wording on the last sentence...seems a little complex for a 6 year old.

First Day of School
Rory on her first day of 1st Grade.

Massie heading to her second year at Montessori pre-school.

Last Camping Trip of 2015
We took one final camping trip this year to the White Mountains.  We did a little gold panning, four wheeling, exploring and a lot of relaxing.

Yuri grabbing dirt to pan.

The girls come from a long line of gold panners - here they are continuing the tradition.

Yuri with his three flakes of gold (we used salted dirt - i.e. gold was put into the dirt beforehand).

WWWW - Alaskan Fare
Lisa Sundborg, Mom and I hosted our neighborhood WWWW party in early August.  The theme was The Abundance of Alaska and as you can see we had a beautiful night to enjoy the food Alaska has to offer (minus the cheese - I couldn't find Alaskan made cheeses).

Last Golf Outing of the Year
Yuri brought the girls and me out to the last golf day of 2015.  We hit a few balls and frankly the girls have surpassed my abilities (not hard to do).  It is so stinking cute to watch them lugging their bags out to the greens.

Miscellaneous 2015 Summer Fun
Massie sure does look like she enjoys soccer here right?  Wrong...she hated it.  Oh well, I got a good picture out of the season.

Yuri's sister, Genevieve, was in town with her kiddos for the Golden Day's parade this year - here she is with the gang of kiddos.

We had a fun weekend at the lake with my folks - cooking, eating, playing cards, berry picking and, of course, swinging.

The girls playing cards with grandma.

The girls clowning around with their cousin Estelle.

Yuri has shown a lot of creativity in his mowing this year.  Here was his first creation.

The second creation is a little hard to see - it was a tic-tac-toe board.

Good times at my favorite restaurant - Chena's.

My little movie star.

Massie and Rory have been non-stop watching a YouTube tutorial on how to get Merida's hair (Disney princess from Brave). Well, I followed the tutorial which required wrapping Rory's hair around straws and this was the result.

And finally, the girls and I went on our annual trip to watch the Equinox Marathon runners.  My friend, Kathleen, runs it every year as part of the Team in Training group and we love to show up to support her and the cause.  Here we are in the car warming up.

Enjoy this beautiful Fall!
